🌸Pink for cause #3; We caribou’t you🌸

After working on this side project; trimmed and shaved caribou hide – I am debating to switch from calf skin to the authentic caribou hide for the Qaliq women’s parka.  I really like the natural caribou color with the squirrel!

I am thinking that it’ll be best to stick with caribou on the parka project!  I am going to do it!!!!

I think trimmed caribou is soft and amazingly workable!!  I have been aiming to get this art piece done before tomorrow but I don’t think I will but some how way or other I will!

“We caribou’t you!”

“We caribou’t you!” The title of this art piece is to honor all the fighters and those who lost the battle to breast cancer – I know it’s not much but I want to give back to what was gifted to me.

This will be donated to an event that is here is Fairbanks; BCDC 2017 Gala, Bra-HA-HA FUNraiser at the Westmark Hotel on September 30, 6 pm!

Yupik traditional women’s parka is made from squirrels and caribou and all other trims by wolf, wolverine, and land otter.  Red simplizes life.  This art piece has many options; wall hanging, part of a purse, or sewn onto a quspeq or sweater or made into a decorative bag.  I have decided to leave it as it is for now – maybe tomorrow I will add an alder stick to help for hanging on the wall.
I have really enjoyed this side project.  Quyanaqvaa Agayun Jesus!❤️🌸

🌸Pink for a cause #2

I had the most fun adventure with this side project.  Every piece is a process; hunting, gathering, tanning, dyeing with alder, cutting the materials, measuring by sight and fingures, and sewing.

Caribou & Swan

I started off with trimming the caribou hair with my husband’s hair clippers and with my well used scissors.

Dyed seal skin

Materials; swan feet leather, caribou hair and trimmed caribou hide, land otter hide, wolf hide, my own experiment dyed seal skin and some collected beads. I didn’t add any pink yet – I thought I would but I want to keep the Yupik traditional colors with this art piece.

Otter & Wolf

These three pieces are meant to be together as one piece.

Collected Beads

I still have to add squirrels and possibly two strips of trimmed caribou hide and a stick of alder hung by caribou sinew.  I will post the final decorative art piece by tomorrow evening or Friday.  ❤️
